How did Pirates Beat the Summer Heat?

Trying to stay cool this summer? As the temperature rises and the oppressive humidity weighs on us like a blanket, it's a tough task to beat the heat, especially on shore.

Out on the open water, the temperatures are often cooler than onshore. This is the same right here in Boca Ciega Bay, where our trio of vessels set sail daily. So, are you looking for a way to beat the heat? There may be no better place than on the water while dolphin sightseeing or partaking in your own pirate adventure!

So, how did pirates manage to stay cool? A lot of it had to do with their choice of attire.

A lowly crew member often wore long, loose trousers, baggy, open shirts and scarves on their heads to protect themselves from the sun. A sash was often worn around the waist underneath the shirt to absorb sweat. Why is a pirate's shirt always tucked in? Let's just say that they often times went commando, so their shirt pulled double duty.
