Baby Dolphins Make a Splash and a Special Fireworks Cruise!

Dolphin Calf Sightings + Independence Day on a Pirate Ship!

The resident dolphins of Boca Ciega Bay are saying hello to newborn calves! Each year, the Atlantic Bottlenose Dolphins that call these waters home begin to rear their young. After a pregnancy of 12 months, most local mothers give birth between May and August. Here in Boca Ciega Bay, births are most frequent in June.

Calves are usually born tail first! They’re approximately three feet long and weigh between 22 and 44 pounds. The calf's skin is darker than the adults for the first few weeks and they even have stripes, known as fetal folds, due to the way they rest in the mother’s room - in the shape of the letter ‘C’!

To see a baby dolphin in the wild is such a treat! Reports from aboard the DolphinQuest confirm that at least two babies have been spotted by guests thus far. Could there be more? While we can’t guarantee that you will see a baby dolphin, chances are higher now than at any other time during the year!

Oh, and just a reminder - you are guaranteed to see dolphins on our first three DolphinQuest tours of each and every day of summer!
